age: Unknown, although he looks around 20.

race/ethnicity: Human/Japanese
sexuality: Asexual. He’s tried it both genders and feels that it’s overrated. Playing with people’s minds is so much more fun, anyway. He seems to have a slight inclination towards busty women, although all that means is that he’s a bit less inclined to make them one of his playthings.
appearance: At about 6'1 and weighing 152 pounds, Gin is one tall Japanese person. He's also rather scrawny-looking, with a creepy, fox like face that is marked by a perpetual smile, thin eyebrows, and a squint that obscures his icy blue eyes. His messy, short hair is silvery-white, and he has fairly pale skin. He wears a plain white pirate tunic that exposes his chest, and a plain, brown swashbucklers' jacket that looks rather large in comparison to his thin frame. Its only adornments are zippers down the front and across his pockets. He has fairly plain denim jeans with a normal leather belt that his wakizashi is equipped to, and he wears slightly worn leather boots.
When in his spiritual form, his clothes are akin to a 1800s samurai, with a black kimono and hakama, and white tabi socks and sandals. He wears a white sleeveles haori over his kimono that reaches his knees.
personality: At first glance, Ichimaru may seem cheerful and... well, friendly isn't the best word for it, but his thick Kansai dialect misleads many into thinking that. While he is quite cheerful, any impression in the direction of friendliness is dead wrong. He tends to be quite vague when talking, often changing the subject when asked a question and littering his conversations with vague implications, half-truths, and quite a bit of sarcasm. His teasing falls into the mindset of a four-year-old; meaning he basically does it to see how far he can push things until they break. Much of it's rather innocent, but in some cases he tends to get quite sadistic. He shows no hesitation in killing during a fight to the death, even going as far as to injure himself to kill his opponent. However, he doesn’t kill for fun; it's much more fun to keep potential entertainment around.
Which is part of his big problem, really. He tends to see people as playthings, and it's so much fun to break them. Well, their minds, at least. His cleverness and deviousness make him a professional at that sort of thing. It's nearly impossible for him to form attachments or feel any sort of true loyalty to anyone. It’s rather difficult to tell, though, as he’s quite skilled at the art of deception… in fact, he can deceive people without actually lying. He has been known to show sporadic, almost out-of-character kindness, though the last instance of this was when he was young, and it is unclear whether it was for his own gain or out of an honest desire to help someone. He’s also a bit of a kleptomaniac, and is liable to steal something from right under your nose, not entirely caring if you notice or not. He doesn’t talk about himself much, although the few who have gotten to know him suspect that he’s got a large ego under everything.
abilities/weaponry: Ichimaru has a high concentration of spiritual power, so it's possible for his soul to leave his physical body using pills known as "soul candy" and take the form of a Shinigami. This allows him to use the full extent of his powers (which include various spells known as Demon Arts, which can either be used to destroy or to bind) and his sword, Shinsou. Apart from working like a regular sword, Shinsou can also extend to infinite lengths. It's rumored that it has another form, but nobody's seen it... or if they have, they haven't lived to tell the tale. When Gin is in this form, only those with heightened spiritual abilities can see him, although he can interact with the rest of his environment.
When in his regular body, Ichimaru still has his wakizashi, but he can't use its extra abilities. However, he still knows how to use a regular sword, and is good at fistfighting. He's quite fast, and is proficient in firearms due to the nature of Shinsou.

What has been gleaned from the little information known about him is that he was born in a relatively poor village in the Kansai region that was hit harder than most by the recession in technology and was rather neglected by The Power. Whether it was the village Ichimaru or if he arrived there at a later point in his life is unknown. What is known is that he probably did not receive the best treatment from the townspeople due to his looks, his ability to sense the paranormal, and his eventual tendency to cruelty. He was eventually abandoned by his parents, who suspected him to have demonic origins, although sources are not entirely sure when this occurred. It is known that, rather than taking on his family’s name, he began to use the name of his next residence as his family name.
The next known chapter in Ichimaru’s life puts him at about the age of ten. Surviving on the streets of the village Ichimaru, he randomly saved a young girl by the name of Rangiku Matsumoto from starvation. The two lived together from early fall to midwinter, where as suddenly as he rescued the girl, he left her behind. After that, he disappeared for quite some time. The next record of his existence puts him at about seventeen, when he enrolled in an undisclosed academy sanctioned by the Power. While the academy refuses to disclose any information about him due to privacy laws, it is quite obvious he wasn’t the most cooperative of students, as by age eighteen he had disappeared from the student roster. His short stay at the academy also marked the first instance of him taking the form of a Shinigami; he was witnessed by a spiritually sensitive young man who wishes to remain anonymous. When and how he figured out how to become one is unknown.
After he left the academy, he disappeared for quite some time. He was obscure enough to slip under the radar, and since nobody had really known him, there were no inquiries as to what had happened to him. It is suspected that he turned to thievery due to his history of kleptomania, but there is no confirmation of his actions during this time.
His next recorded appearance was fairly spectacular compared to his fairly unassuming life up to that point. He was the only known conspirator in a heist on one of the Power’s weapons facilities, although many of the details (including the item stolen and how many died in the incident) remain confidential. Many investigators are puzzled that he was the known conspirator, considering the fact that he has proven to be clever enough to elude detection by the Power after the event. One investigator has suggested that he made himself known purposefully to draw attention away from hunts on the other conspirators, but Ichimaru’s selfish nature leads most of them to believe that he just got unlucky. The nature of the crime, Ichimaru’s reported viciousness and the utmost secrecy behind the incident lead the man to become relatively obscure to the People, although he is well-known in the Power.
His most recent sightings have been around various ports. It is unknown whether or not he has taken up piracy as an occupation, but it would not be surprising. His motives for joining a crew would be quite unclear, however.
